R_001_Modified Shortcuts

INTRO

Everyone using Revit uses shortcuts which are by default good, but after a while we add new and maybe adapt old one. When creating a model in Revit, you use same commands hundreds and hundreds of times which accumulated can result in time gain or loss. If you change tabs, point and click on commands then you are losing time which you can spend on drawing, thinking and stretching. In this post, we will talk about setting up shortcuts and our modifications to them. Also if you would like what we use you can download a printable sheet with shortcuts and simple instructions at the end of the post.

WHEN TO CREATE SHORTCUT?

  • Repeating one command three or more times in a minute?; make a shortcut

  • Annoyed by the amount of pathing it takes to get to a command?; make a shortcut

  • You get Déjà vu off your sufferings?; make a shortcut

BASIC CONCEPTS IN CREATING SHORTCUTS

  1. Beginning letters of shortcut (e.g. Cut Geometry - CU)

  2. Something close to fingers and fast

  3. Using symbols that make no sense (reversed logic - we easily remember strange things)
